Emmanuel

Emmanuel Church is situated at the King George Road end of Silverweed Road. The church building was opened in 1961, but before that existed first as a Sunday school, meeting in the hut next to the Hook and Hatchet public house (now the Poacher's Pocket). When the hut was no longer available the Sunday school moved to a scout hut situated on land which is now part of the playing field of St Thomas More School. It was then moved to the Starlight School of Dancing where the first evening church services were held and the Church was founded.
Although Emmanuel Church is affiliated to the Congregational Federation, we welcome Christians of
all denominations to join us in our informal services of praise and worship. In a congregational church,
decisions are made at a church meeting where every church member is able to vote. We celebrate Communion every Sunday and our services are led by a lively worship group of musicians and singers.
