Walderslade Ward of Medway Council is represented by two Councillors and we are Ian BURT and Kieran MAGEE.

We are both Independent Councillors which means we are not members of a Political Party and are therefore not bound by National or Local policies devised by any party.

Medway Council has 55 Members of which 9 of the ruling group form the Cabinet which makes decisions within policy laid down by Full Council. There are a few Committees that have power to make decisions and Kieran sits on Licensing whilst Ian sits on Development Control. Both of these are important decision making Committees. We also sit on 2 of the 4 Overview and Scrutiny Committees attending the others when necessary.

The main role of Councillors, apart from attending meetings, is try to help individuals and groups who are having difficulties in getting their points appreciated by the Council. It is often best for people to approach the Council to see if the problem can be resolved and involve us if difficulties arise. There are circumstances where help is required dealing with organisations other than the Council but often this will be referring to other people such as Citizens Advice Bureaux for more advice.

It is important to remember that individual Councillors do not have any power to insist on any particular outcome but we can see that proper procedures have been followed and, where possible, a particular case is reviewed.
